Melissa and Jeff were married at Artists for Humanity in South Boston in June, and just thinking back to their wedding day makes me grin because I could tell how much they enjoyed the day from start to finish. From our first meeting, I knew that their wedding would be centered around family and friends, incorporate great design details because Melissa is a really talented graphic designer, and Jeffrey has excellent style as well. I asked Melissa a couple of questions so that I could share her side of the story along with these photographs.

What was the most important thing to you and Jeffrey when it came to planning, and visualizing your wedding day?

“Being a graphic designer, visualizing our wedding was so much fun. We both knew that we wanted a modern and simple aesthetic for our big day. We also wanted it to feel urban and connected to our favorite city, Boston! This is partly why we ended up choosing Artists for Humanity as our venue. The mission of the organization spoke to us and we loved the fact that it’s 8 minutes from our home in Charlestown. We also wanted to incorporate my childhood home in Cambridge into our wedding day, so we did our first look and immediate family photos there before the ceremony. We had a champagne toast and then headed downtown all together. It was a perfect way to start off the celebrations.”

What was a favorite memory from the day?

“Walking down the aisle with my dad towards Jeff. Thinking of it just makes me teary! It was so moving to have our community surrounding us, being next to my amazing father all while walking towards the wonderful man with whom I was going to share the rest of my life.

The entire ceremony was extremely special. We had a good friend marry us and she wrote a personalized ceremony that so beautifully connected our histories, values and families. We wrote our own vows which was very important to both of us. I was petrified about this part. It felt scary to read such personal feelings out loud. But once I was down the aisle and across from Jeff, I was so relaxed. Reading my vows felt easy and natural, just like it has felt with Jeff since our very first date. Hearing him say in front of everyone, that he’d always choose to love me and support our marriage is something that I will never forget. And the love and support from the people in the room was palpable. Two of my best friends were in the front row crying throughout the entire ceremony. Our parents and siblings were next to them, holding hands and crying. It was a moving twenty minutes that I will cherish forever.”

“I feel really pleased with our experience with Lindsay! Not only are the photographs beautiful, but Lindsay was prompt and professional from day one. I was calm and collected on our wedding day because of her guidance and knowledge about ways to get the best shots. And I was so excited to receive our album. We’ll cherish it forever.

I’m a creative myself and I know how difficult it is to find creative professionals that produce beautiful, high quality work while also maintaining a professional attitude. Lindsay is an amazing combination of these two things — super talented and extremely professional.”

Special thanks for Alexis at Neon Event Productions, Artists for Humanity and Gina Brocker, for being an amazing second photographer.
