Kat and Jay both have infectious smiles, and a playful banter between them that tells me they’re off to a great start for their marriage. Their early April wedding day was a classic Boston early spring weather – chilly and wet with gusting winds and intermittent downpours. Lucky for me, they chose to have their wedding in the gorgeous Taj Boston, so we had plenty to work with without ever needing to leave the building. During their engagement session, we strolled through the South End and Commonwealth Ave, stopping to admire the brownstones, and Jay told me about his line of work restoring historic buildings in Boston. The building that houses the Taj Boston originally opened in 1927 as the first location for the Ritz Carlton Boston, so I knew the interior beauty of this historic Boston space was begging to be the backdrop for this elegant couple.

As I scouted the ballrooms, rooftop and nooks and crannies in between, I felt like Eloise set free to explore this amazing palace. I fell in love with the opulent blues and golds in one of the ballrooms, and the giant windows, with help from the Taj’s wonderful coordinator Kara, we made sure we were able to use that room for their first look, and portraits.

Kat crossed the ballroom to see Jay for the first time, and in those short seconds of their first look, there was wonder and excitement, tears and laughter. There’s nothing like being totally present in that moment and allowing yourself to feel the range of emotions that comes with seeing your partner on your wedding day for the first time, and knowing that you’ve chosen each other to spend your lives together.

Family is really important to Kat and Jay, and one of my favorite moments from the day was when Kat was escorted down the aisle by her brother, and I turned around to see Jay, Kat’s mother, grandmother, and Jay’s parents, all leaning in with the most excited smiles to watch them approach the chuppah. From the signing of the ketubah, their beautiful ceremony, and the epic dance party that followed, these two had those smiles all night long. Special thanks to Gina Brocker for helping me tell the story of this day!
